01 — The practice

Built for sites that have to open on a date

ATS Construction is a civil and project-management team. The office is at TB 301, Capital High Street, Phool Bag Chowk, Bhiwadi — in the industrial belt the work comes from.

Day-to-day scope is wider than a single trade. Foundations and RCC frames. STP, UGT and ETP civils. Fabrication and erection. Plumbing and interiors. Outside the building: bitumen and CC roads, pavers, sewer and storm lines, grass and landscape. Permanent staff and a maintained yard of plant stay with the job instead of being hired in for one pour.

  • Permanent staff, not a crew assembled only for the pour
  • Workmen used to industrial and warehouse sites
  • Owned plant: excavators, mixers, total station, shuttering and scaffolding
  • Engineers, safety, quality and stores on the site itself
  • Project managers who stay on the job through closeout

Managing the work

Tofiq Khandewla

The team is guided by Mr. Tofiq Khandewla, with over 15 years in civil engineering services and a record of seeing jobs through to the client’s satisfaction. His range covers industrial, residential, commercial and warehouse construction; STP, UGT and ETP; fabrication and erection; interiors and plumbing; and external works — roads, pavers, sewer, stormwater and landscaping.

The standard he sets on site is straightforward: the drawing is followed, the quality is checked, and the handover is something the client can actually use.

02 — Scope

What the site team actually does

Four building types, plus the utilities, steel, plumbing, interiors and external works that make a plot usable. Pick a family to see the scope.

Civil work covers the building itself: concrete and masonry, from the first setting-out to the finished frame. Sheds, houses, commercial blocks, warehouses and the tanks and treatment plants are run as one site, by one team.

  • Industrial buildings
  • Residential construction
  • Commercial buildings
  • Warehouses
  • Sewage treatment plants (STP)
  • Underground tanks (UGT)
  • Effluent treatment plants (ETP)

03 — Yard

Plant that is already on the books

Excavation, mixing, surveying, cutting, testing and finishing. Shuttering is carried at 70,000 sq ft and scaffolding at 10 MT, so a second front does not wait on a hire yard.

05 — Control

Five phases, then the feedback loop

Planning is the document the rest of the job is judged against. Monitoring finds the slip. Control spends people, plant and a revised programme to get the date back.

  1. 01

    Feasibility

Finance check and a plain feasibility read before anyone commits plant to the ground. Tendering sits in this phase.

  2. 02

    Planning

Estimate, scope, method and a schedule the site can actually run. This plan is what later monitoring is measured against.

  3. 03

    Execution

Work starts on the approved drawing and on agreed changes. Quality and EHS plans are in force from the first day, not after the first incident.

  4. 04

    Control

Daily, weekly and monthly reviews. Variances, claims and cash are looked at while there is still time to recover the date.

  5. 05

    Closeout

De-snag, document handover and release of liabilities. The job is finished when the file is finished, not when the last mason leaves.

Open the project deskWalk the same five phases on the sample year — the work breakdown, the June variance, and what a control action actually buys.Explore controls

Monitoring

  1. 1A detailed project plan, not a one-page bar
  2. 2Tracking at WBS and activity level
  3. 3Daily, weekly and monthly progress reviews
  4. 4Weekly check of the master plan and the negative variances
  5. 5Earned value, read against the baseline
  6. 6Cash flow and budget, kept next to the physical progress

Control

  1. 1A catch-up plan and, where it is honest, a crashed schedule
  2. 2More people or plant on the activities that have slipped
  3. 3Work packages that can run in parallel
  4. 4Extra fronts opened so one delay does not freeze the site
  5. 5Revised plans, cash flows and schedules issued, not implied

The programme already carries rain, cyclone risk and festive holidays. A date that ignores them is not a plan.

How the site reports

  • Site meetings — daily, weekly, or the moment a decision is needed
  • A weekly review with the project lead
  • A daily progress report from the site
  • A monthly report for the client file
  • Email when an issue is critical enough to leave the chat
  • A WhatsApp group for the site team, used for speed, not for hiding the record

When the client’s clock changes

  • Extended hours and night work when the pour or the shutdown demands it
  • A quick realignment when the client’s requirement changes
  • Critical activities owned through an escalation path, not left on the supervisor’s phone
  • A short response time — the call is answered by someone who can act
  • Client first, including on the days the programme is uncomfortable
